AUDITION NOTICE:

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof - by Tennessee Williams

Saturday, March 28 at 10am

CAST NEEDED: 8 men & 8 women
 
ROLES:
Maggie (late 20s ‐ early 30s or who can play in this age range) – Seductive, smart, determined , very attractive but showing traces of disappointment and frustration; married to Brick in a troubled marriage.
 
Brick (late 20s-early 30s or who can play in this age range) – Younger and favorite son of Big Daddy; an ex-athlete still in shape despite his constant drinking
 
Gooper (early 30s to mid-40s) – Brick's older brother, a corporate lawyer, resentful of the Big Daddy's clear preference for Brick, whom he sees as pathetic.
 
Mae (late 20s to late 30s) – Society type married to Gooper, pregnant with their sixth child; conniving to secure Gooper's control of the family wealth once Big Daddy dies.
 
Big Daddy (late 50s - 70s) – A large, brash, almost vulgar millionaire who does not suffer fools or phonies; truly loves Brick despite his disappointment in Brick's self-destructive behavior.
 
Big Mama (50 - 70s) – Family matriarch who tries to keep peace; tolerant; easily rattled; a bit earthy at times.
 
Reverend Tooker (mid-30s - 60s) – Local preacher looking to get his hand deeper into Big Daddy's pockets.
 
Doctor Baugh (40s - 70s) – Trusted family physician.
 
3 Male and 2 Female children (ages 7 - 11) – The two females have a few lines but all will play, sing a bit and cause commotion. Limited number of rehearsals required.
 
2 maids and/or groundskeepers (any age) - They have a few lines, round up the kids, and bring some items on and off stage.
 
 
ABOUT THE PLAY: One of Williams's more famous works and his personal favorite, the play won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1955. Set in the "plantation home in the Mississippi Delta" of Big Daddy, a wealthy cotton tycoon, the play examines the relationships among members of Big Daddy's family, primarily between his son Brick and Maggie the "Cat", Brick's wife.
